One Room Challenge Fall 2017 Reveal Guest/Boy Bedroom

I want to thank you all for your kind support during this seasons ORC, it means so much to me! I really love being a part of these challenges because it totally keeps me focused. Before we get started, just know that I am not a professional or an expert of anything. I’m rather cheap, enjoy re-purposing things myself, and using things that are used or already made instead of buying everything new.

So! Here is the link to last weeks progress if you want to check it out.  Also, I know there will be so many amazing transformations from other guest participants here

We actually did a ton of diy’s in this space and I think there is too much to share all the details so I will do another post and break everything down and share how we did everything.

The awesome things we did included painting the entire room and sanding, re-staining, and sealing the floor ourselves. We ripped down barn wood and used it for all our trim. We re-built the closet and added shelves behind the door. We made our sliding mirror and made a cover for the headboard. We dyed and made the closet curtains and installed all the light fixtures. We repainted/re-purposed some of the decor and best of all, did quality work and actually had fun doing it together.

I realize the trend now is all brass and gold but I really wanted something a little darker to offset the white so I chose bronze, navy, browns, and a hint of green and gold as my colors. Plus it IS a cabin so I felt like it could handle a heavier look.

Here are a couple before pics:

And after:

So whenever I see sliding barn doors I always wonder why it’s just an empty area because there’s plenty of room behind it so I decided to add a picture there for when it’s closed and I love it. I’m probably going to find something bigger.

We would not have gotten done in the time we wanted by painting the room with a roller, we are SO glad we had our Home Right Paint Sprayer it is meant for smaller projects but it did such a great job painting these walls and saved us so much time and we didn’t have to pull out our huge high maintenance paint sprayer, and it’s so easy to clean!

This little night stand got stripped and left with that raw look.

I found this header thing awhile ago for $10 and painted it black and gold then sanded it because I felt like the wood clashed with the trim. These baskets got a quick coat of paint to lighten them up a little bit. And yes they have toys in them. We also made the closet shelves.

I️ am so glad to have these shelves behind this door! It was just wasted space before!

< img class=”wp-image-982″ src=”https://www.nonishouse.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/img_0987.jpg” width=”882″ height=”1334″>It was the first time I had ever tried dyeing anything and these curtains came out perfect! I used this one.

I️ wanted something not too bulky or big next to this side of the bed and I️ had this basket I️ bought for $2 at a yard sale that turned into the perfect table. The pouf was in my basement and I thought it would look awesome in here. I love shopping my own house, lol!

The mirror I got from the thrift store for $7.50! It was meant to be here, since it was the perfect size for this window. We made the track ourselves and got everything from our local store. It works so great at keeping light out in the morning, I am really impressed with it. I’ll post later on how we did it.

I really, really love these lamps. They were SO easy to install and you can adjust the brightness and dimness and also how they are angled. Lamps Plus has so many great options! And of course gotta have a little plaid in a cabin!

This room was so much fun to do and I’m so grateful to Levi for getting it done and helping my vision come to life! We also had some awesome products to work with:

SOURCES:

  • Chandelier and wall lamps: Lamps Plus (great sale right now!!)
  • Rug: Overstock
  • Throw: TjMaxx
  • Black pillow: Target
  • White Pillows: Downlight Bedding
  • Linen pillows: Ikea
  • Round leather pillow: Potterybarn

Everything else was bought at a yard sale, thrift store, or off my local ads.

I already have a spring challenge planned!!
